I mostly listen to classical music, especially orchestral/symphonic works. I used to have a pair of MX985 (the newest flagship earbuds of Sennheiser). It always made me upset when I was using it to listen to symphonies because of its narrow sound-stage and dry bass, though MX985 are good at performing light music and POPs (especially Japanese ACG music).

Some of my friends recommended the IE80 headphones to me, telling me they would be the best choice for classical music. So I purchased a pair of IE80 at Headphone-Canada on February 13.

Several hours ago I went to the local Canada Post and picked my IE80 up. Being excited and curious, I opened the package and connect the headphones to my D50 player.

I retrieved some WAV tracks from my CDs to test the headphones. They were all large symphonic/orchestral pieces, such as Holst's planet suite, Beethoven's symphony No. 9, and Strauss's also sprach Zarathustra (all of them were performed by Karajan & BPO).

The first impression of the headphones made me disappointed: the lows were extremely strong, which were actually suppressing the mids and highs (actually I felt that the bass was blowing my head off). The analyzing ability of the headphones was also covered by the powerful bass. The voice of singers was suppressed by the sound of bass instruments, too. The overall sound quality could be described as "faint" and "dim"...

What really made me satisfied was the vast sound-stage: I just felt I was sitting in Koerner Hall to enjoy a concert.

I wish my IE80 would become much better after a 200-hr burn-in...Some audiophiles told me that the head-blowing bass would be reduced after a long time burn-in...Hopefully this could happen...

Shopping at Headphone-Canada was a happy experience. The staff was professional and patient. The package was wrapped carefully and the delivery was faster than expected.

After a 20-hour burn-in, the performance of IE80 has changed a lot. The bass is less head-blowing, and the analyzing ability increases...I am so satisfied with those changes.

Choosing correct ear tips makes a big difference, too.

The original silicon ear tips and the comply foam tips will give you an extremely powerful, head-blowing bass. They are suitable for heavy metal music and most of the POP music. Also, if you love to enjoy solo cello music, or any other music performed by bass instruments, the comply ear tips and the set of silicon ear tips will be your best choice.

If you love listening to classical music like large orchestral pieces, and Japanese ACG music/J-POP, never use those ear tips mentioned above: J-POP/ACG and orchestral music require a rather high analyzing ability; also they need warm mids and brilliant highs.

Check your ear tip sets, and you will find two pairs of grey silicon tips; they look like UFOs. They are the hardest tips compared with those soft silicon tips and comply foam tips, which means wearing those tips will be an excruciating experience. However, those tips will give you a totally different music performance. With those grey tips on, the sound-stage is considerably expanded, and the mids/highs become warm and brilliant. The head-blowing bass is largely reduced, becoming more comfortable. The analyzing ability also increases a lot. The sound quality at this moment could be described as "translucent"!!!!

IE80 headphones are so awesome and outstanding. I think I may purchase another set of IE80 as back-up.

Just got it today. I love everything of IE80! Thank you Headphonescanada! I can't write too much because of my poor English. A great and classical IEM! If you are a bass head, buy it! If you are not, still buy it!

This is not a pair of IEMs for everyone. As I mostly listen to classical music, the only way I can use the ie80s is with the bass all the way down. The soundstage alone makes these worth it for me.

Please forgive my English mistake.
Just received the New Sennheiser IE 80, tried on few different types of music. I have to say the sound levels are well done, really clear sound. you can really hear the different of every instrument. The customer bass changing is my favor part.
If you can not pay for the IE 800, go for this one, you will love it.
