The NAD HP50 have been showered with awards since their release. Being makers of fine HiFi equipment for over 40 years, NAD have brought their HiFi skills to the headphone market. We had an NAD stereo in our living room growing up over 20 years ago, and it's still going strong. NAD builds audio equipment that lasts, and is top quality.
Some things we like about the HP50 include inline 3 button control for full iPhone/phone control. This is often left off the HiFi headphones design spec but we like it here, it make a lot of sense when most of our listening is done off an iPhone, even at home when we want to be a little more mobile.
40mm drivers let you get down to 10Hz and up to 20kHz. Having been developed in one of the quietest audio environments in the world, these things are seriously fine tuned HiFi. The HP50 have RoomFeel™ which is a proprietary acoustic modeling process NAD used when tuning the headphones. Ultimately this gives you a great, open soundstage.
Ultrasoft earcups make these comfortable.
Sound and Vision gave the HP50 the top headphone award for 2014 and we can't disagree. To quote Steve Guttenburg, Sound and Visions headphone guru:
"Designed by PSB’s Paul Barton, these closed-back ‘phones sound smooth as silk, with excellent detail retrieval, a big soundstage, and bass with the perfect balance of speed and low-end oomph,”
